Neides tipularius
Family: Berytidae
This large straw-coloured stiltbug has very long hind femora and should be unmistakeable. Berytinus species are smaller and have a much shorter 2nd antennal segment.
Found
locally throughout much of southern Britain, although rare in Ireland, N. tipularius
favours dry habitats such as sand dunes, heaths and weedy arable
fields, feeding on a range of plants.
Adults overwinter, mating
early in the spring; the new
generation is complete from July onwards.
