Neides tipularius
Family: Berytidae

This large straw-coloured stiltbug has very long hind femora and should be unmistakeable. Berytinus species are smaller and have a much shorter 2nd antennal segment.

Found locally throughout much of southern Britain, although rare in Ireland, N. tipularius favours dry habitats such as sand dunes, heaths and weedy arable fields, feeding on a range of plants.

Adults overwinter, mating early in the spring; the new generation is complete from July onwards.
