Horvathiolus superbus
Family: Lygaeidae

A distinctive red and black ground bug with two obvious white spots on the wing membrane, one in the middle and one at the tip. However, the genus includes many very similar species in continental Europe and the identification of British specimens requires examination of voucher specimens.

This species is widespread in the Channel Islands but was not found on the British mainland until 2019, when a colony was discovered at a site in west Yorkshire. This population was presumably the result of horticultural introduction and was associated with Common Foxglove Digitalis purpurea, the usual host plant, in a warm and  sheltered south-facing location.
