Oxycarenus modestus Family: Lygaeidae A small and rather pear-shaped species with a dark and strongly punctured head, pronotum and scutellum. The clavus is pale with three rows of punctures. The corium is broadly pale at the base and the wing membrane largely blackish. The fore femora are armed with one large spine and 2-3 smaller ones. A recent arrival from the continent, where it is widely distributed on alders. So far recorded only from a site in central London during 2017, when numerous adults and nymphs were beaten from heat-stressed Common Alder Alnus glutinosa growing in dry grassland.
