Orthotylus
bilineatus
Family: Miridae
Orthotylus
is a large genus of predominantly green bugs. Many are
extremely similar and species identification based on external features is
often difficult. The hostplant can be very informative.
O. bilineatus is
one of the more easily recognised species; the sides of the pronotum are
concave and the clavus and centre of the scutellum are darkened. The
antennae are also mostly dark.
Widely scattered throughout much of the UK,
feeding on aspen and sometimes grey poplar.
Adult: July-September
Length 5.0 mm
