Orthotylus rubidus
Family: Miridae

Orthotylus is a large genus of predominantly green bugs. Many are extremely similar and
species identification based on external features is often difficult. The hostplant can be very informative.

O. rubidus is a small species which is dull reddish to pink in colour and covered in white hairs. The bug is associated with Glassworts Salicornia species growing in saline coastal areas, but is confined to situations which are not regularly inundated and is not found on open saltmarshes, unlike the much more frequent O. moncreaffi.

A very local species with a scattered distribution on the coasts of southern and eastern England. Appears to have declined in the modern period.
