Mecidea lindbergi
Family: Pentatomidae

Mecidea species are rather elongate shieldbugs and quite unlike other members of the Pentatomidae. Separation of the four European species is difficult and the most useful characters are based on the proportions and relative size of the head and the proportions and shape of the antennal segments. A specimen is required for identification.

This species has never been known to breed in Britain, but was recorded as a long distance migrant during December 2015, when multiple specimens were recorded at light traps on the south coast of England during a period of strong southerly airflows. Its native range includes the Canary Islands, north Africa, the Middle East and parts of the Mediterranean.
