Batracomorphus allionii Family: Cicadellidae The two species of Batracomorphus can be separated from Iassus by the 5 (rather than 3) spines at the tip of the hind femur. B. allionii is significantly larger than B. irroratus and entirely green except for a dark spot near the tip of the forewings. Recently discovered in Britain, this species has been found at several grassland sites in southern England, where its foodplants are as yet unclear. Surprisingly, this is in contrast to its ecology in Germany, where the species is always associated with woody legumes such as common broom Cytisus scoparius and dyer's greenweed Genista tinctoria. Adult: July-September Length: 6.0 - 8.0 mm |
