Idiocerus
herrichi Family: Cicadellidae Leafhoppers in the Idiocerinae are large and often highly patterned, with a very broad, short vertex. The group is large and often very difficult to identify. Almost all are associated with poplars or willows. In I. herrichi the facial markings, banded costal margin, broad pale midline to the pronotum and markings on the scutellum (three dark triangles with a horseshoe-shaped mark) are diagnostic. There are hairs on the genae (see bottom right) and males have antennal palettes. A previously scarce species in southern England, it now appears to be well established on willows (Salix alba and S. fragilis), and may overwinter on evergreens. Adult: August to September, and later Length 6-7 mm |
