Idiocerus
rutilans Family: Cicadellidae Leafhoppers in the Idiocerinae are large and often highly patterned, with a very broad, short vertex. The group is large and often very difficult to identify. Almost all are associated with poplars or willows. The forewings are basally plain reddish-brown and hyaline in the apical third, with several white spots along the cubital vein. The scutellum is mainly brown with a pale apex; other small pale marks may be present and the dark triangles are often faint or absent. The thyridia are dark and the face is particularly plain and yellowish in males, which also have very small, slender antennal palettes. Locally distributed on sallows, primarily in southern Britain, often overwintering on pines. Adult: April to November Length ~5 mm |
