Idiocerus ustulatus
Family: Cicadellidae

Leafhoppers in the Idiocerinae are large and often highly patterned, with a very broad, short vertex. The group is large and often very difficult to identify. Almost all are associated with poplars or willows.

I. ustulatus is bright green, with the scutellum and inner margins of the wings dark reddish-brown. The male has small antennal palettes and the antennae are very long.
It is the smallest member of the genus.

This species is a fairly recent incomer to the UK, and has been recorded from England as far north as Lincolnshire, on grey and white poplar. Overwinters on evergreens, particularly Yew.
