Rhytistylus
proceps Family: Cicadellidae A superficially undistinguished genus with a single species in the UK. R. proceps is easily identified by the V-shaped array of three dark lines near the top of the face. The dorsal surface is often entirely pale, but the shape is rather broad, with a wide vertex that is relatively sharply pointed anteriorly. The scutellum sometimes has dark basal triangles, and there are sometimes darker streaks in the forewing cells. It is locally common in long grassland and thought to be associated with Sheep's fescue. Traditionally distributed in southern England, it appears to be spreading northwards, and has now been found in Yorkshire. Adult: June to November Length 3.5-5 mm |
