Streptanus marginatus
Family: Cicadellidae

A genus of three rather variable species, usually with short wings and a broad outline. Care must be taken over identification due to some inconsistency and confusion in past identification guides.

S. marginatus is usually easily separated from the other two species by the very short forewings, which do not reach the final two segments of the abdomen. However, this condition can also occur in S. sordidus. The vertex is rather sharply pointed, and there is typically a dark transverse streak in the centre, and no clear markings on the pronotum. Hindwings are not much longer than half of forewing length.

Common on acidic and other grasslands in at least mainland Britain.
