Idiocerus lituratus Family: Cicadellidae Leafhoppers in the Idiocerinae are large and often highly patterned, with a very broad, short vertex. The group is large and often very difficult to identify. Almost all are associated with poplars or willows. I. lituratus is one of several mottled brown species that do not have a distinct pale band towards the apical end of the forewing. Unlike the others, the face is entirely pale, with black thyridia. The scutellum is distinctly wider than long, with tall basal triangles. Males have antennal palettes. Relatively common, on sallows, creeping willow and crack willow. Widespread in Britain. Compare: I. stigmaticalis Adult: July to November Length 5.5-6.5 mm |
