Idiocerus stigmaticalis
Family: Cicadellidae

Leafhoppers in the Idiocerinae are large and often highly patterned, with a very broad, short vertex. The group is large and often very difficult to identify. Almost all are associated with poplars or willows.

I. stigmaticalis is best distinguished by the alignment of the bases of the external apical cells at the tip of the forewing (arrowed, right). Males, which have obvious antennal palettes, often show a yellow-orange patch on the outer edge of the wing. Both sexes have hair on the lower part of the face, particularly males.

A comon species on white willow and crack willow, found across England and Scotland, at least.
