Macropsis cerea Family: Cicadellidae Macropsis is a large and complex group of species which are often difficult to identify. The genus is distinguished by the striations on the pronotum which run diagonally from the corners to the centre of the front margin (parallel to the hind margin in Oncopsis). M. cerea is a brownish species in which the wing veins are as pale or paler than the cells. There are almost always two dark bars across the forewings although these are variable in extent and the pronotum is also variably dark. Males have a greyish patch on upper part of the face. Found throughout much of Britain on sallows, particularly Salix caprea and S. purpurea. Adult: June to September Length 4.0-5.0 mm |
