Muirodelphax aubei
Family: Delphacidae

Many of the species formerly included in the genus Delphacodes are very hard to identify using external characters and frequently impossible to separate without reference to the genitalia.

The sexes may also appear very different. M. aubei has a pale brown frons and vertex, with the keels only
sometimes slightly darker-edged. The keels are indistinct at the top of the frons. Males have a dark abdomen with an orange midline and 2-4 intermittent pale lines down the sides in brachypters (macropters are less common). Females have a largely pale abdomen with a broken longitudina stripe made from clear dark spots (or sometimes two). The 1st gonocoxa is slightly concave.

M. aubei is found in dry places, especially on vegetated sandy areas on coasts, but also rarely inland. Widespread around the UK.
There are two generations per year, adults and nymphs probably feeding on the grass Poa pratensis.

Adult: April to October
Length 2-3 mm (macropters 3.5 mm)
